2017 Season - Week 20
BUMSBowl XXII
Johnnie finally ended his (16 seed) brother’s giant killing acts beating him 33-17. The other game was closer, tied 12-all at half-time Chief led Marcus 20-15 in the fourth quarter of the NFC Championship game but Marcus could not get a score from Latavius Murray or Nelson Agholor and so Chief will play in his record-breaking seventh BUMSBowl. The best team Mark and Marcus could have selected would have put up 53 points for just $3.5m (Nick Foles 9pts $0.5m, either Jake Elliott or Josh Lambo 8pts $0.5m, Danny Amendola 12pts $0.5m, Alshon Jeffery 12pts $1m, Marcedes Lewis 6pts $0.5m and Torrey Smith 6pts $0.5m). But Mark and Marcus didn’t, so it’s Johnnie against Chief in BUMSBowl XXII in 12 days. Because of Chief working in Saudi next week teams need to be in by 1pm this Sunday (Jan 28th) but any player who is inactive can be replaced by a player (not selected by the other team) in the final hour before the Superbowl.
Superbowl LII
Was it inevitable that the Patriots would come back in the fourth quarter and beat Jacksonville? For the fourth time in the playoffs Tom Brady won when down by double digits in the fourth quarter (no other QB has more than one such comeback). However it’s not just about Brady, the defensive changes Bill Belichick makes helped the defense do their part. In those 4 victories the Patriot D has given up just 3 points in the fourth quarter, that was the 3 scored by the Jags on Sunday. The game could have been different if the whistle hadn’t been blown on Miles Jack’s strip fumble recovery. Up 20-10 with 10 minutes left, if the recovery had been left to continue (as Jack was not touched down) he had a good chance to score and put the Jags up by 17 points. It would have changed the final 10 minutes dramatically, if not necessarily the result. In the NFC game Minnesota scored a TD on their first drive and then stopped the Eagles first drive after just 4 plays. And that was that, on the Vikes second drive Case Keenum was intercepted by Patrick Robinson who returned it for a TD. No-one expected what happened after that, as the best D in football this year gave up 31 more points and Phili cruised to a 38-7 victory. So New England will play in their eighth Superbowl in the last 17 seasons while Philadelphia will make in their third appearance having lost to the Raiders in 1981 and to the Patriots 24-21 thirteen years ago.
